One of the main natural attractions of San Francisco is the Muir Woods National Monument. The monument is a part of the National Park Service on the Pacific coast of southwestern Marin County, which is 19 km north of San Francisco in addition is apart of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

The soil is informed to be formed from fine-grained sandstone and a little of shale.
