Famous Dali Posters and Prints
One of the greatest Spanish painters is Salvador Dali as well as one of the important figures in Modernism. He rose above the rest of Surrealists in the 20th Century using both his talent and personality which is basically the basis of his paintings.
Below are brief descriptions of some of Salvador Dali posters:
The Great Masturbator (1929): One of the renowned Salvador Dali posters is The Great Masturbator which is a self-portrait painting in July, 1929. It depicts fear and loathing of sex.
Illumined Pleasures (1929): This painting is full of violent images which has chaotic and frenzied characteristics. It clearly shows Dali’s talent as a miniaturist.
The Invisible Man (1929): This was completed in 1932. This particular painting, as with most of Salvador Dali posters made in 1929, deals with his fear of sex.
The Portrait of Paul Eluard (1929): The theme for this particular painting is still that of Dali’s sexual frustration and fear and depicts more of his emotional state rather than that of the model of the portrait Paul Eluard who was Gala’s husband.
Invisible Sleeping Woman (1930): One of Salvador Dali posters that is themed from the persistence of desires.
The Dream (1931): The woman painted here has no mouth and a seemingly immobile state reflects the loss of control and paralysis. The ants that are crawling at where the mouth should be symbolize death and decay.
Le Spectre et le Fantome (1931): This painting which literally means – the spectre and the phantom – is themed upon that of the spectral and phantom appearances.
The Persistence of Memory (1931): Many of the paintings including this one is made in direct reference to and Dali’s love in this area of his home, the mountain.
Shades of Night Descending (1931): This painting has an obsessive character and/or power being shown by the measureless shadow spreading out at the bottom part and is considered one of the less important elements in Salvador Dali posters and viewers hardly even notice its existence.
Gradiva Finds the Anthropomorphic Ruins (1931): This painting was based on a German story where an archeologist fell in love with Gradiva which is a girl on a Greek stone relief. He later found his true love that is the reincarnation of Gradiva. For Dali however, Gradiva is Gala who is his muse and basically the realization of his past fictional loves.
They Were There (1931): The subject of this painting is unknown which he signed “Gala Dali.” This particular signature came about because Dali said it was Gala’s blood of most that he painted. This painting is unlike the usual Salvador Dali posters.
Eggs on the Plate Without the Plate (1932): The inspiration of this particular painting is based on an intra-uterine memory. It is said that this creation of a paranoiac-critical painting is the direct result of Dali’s memory inside his mother’s womb.
